Pisgah National Forest

The majority of our trips take place under special use permit on the Pisgah District of the Pisgah National Forest and its Congressionally mandated Wilderness Areas.

All groups must provide their own transportation to the trail head where treks begin. The usual trail head is the Black Balsam parking area, just one mile off the Blue Ridge Parkway about 25 miles southwest of Asheville, NC. The trailhead is a large paved parking area. The group will return to this location around mid-day on the last day of the trip.

Continue straight ahead through the stoplight and into the Pisgah National Forest. You will now be on Hwy 276, heading up hill. You will pass the Pisgah Ranger Station. You will go up hill on a curvy road for quite a ways, until you intersect with the Blue Ridge Parkway. Turn left (southwest) on the Parkway. You will be going away from the Pisgah Inn.
